OUR MISSION

Founded in 1975, Bromfield Gallery is one of Boston's premier artist-run galleries. With an emphasis on New England artists, Bromfield shows contemporary art in all media, including printmaking, sculpture, painting, and drawing, as well as video, installation, and new media.

The gallery is located in Boston's dynamic SOWA district (South of Washington Street) in the South End, home to over a dozen of the city's contemporary art galleries, along with high-end furniture and design retail, and an array of fine restaurants. Nearby is the Boston Center for the Arts, which showcases visual art, cultural conferences, and independent theater companies. SOWA comes alive during each month's First Friday opening receptions when galleries and design stores open their doors in the evening in a festive atmosphere.

Bromfield Gallery's yearly SOLO competition, which awards two solo exhibitions to emerging artists, is a vital platform for New England artists. Other yearly exhibitions include Winter Works in December, and a group show of gallery artists. Bromfield features three galleries and a flat file for browsing.

Submissions for the Visiting Artist program and for membership are juried monthly by the gallery artists. As an artist-run gallery, Bromfield places a premium on unique vision and pushing boundaries. Gallery artists range from emerging artists to mid-career artists who hold distinguished teaching positions in the Boston area.

We welcome emerging and established artists regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or disabilities.
