Jennifer Day: “Light and Lineation”

With lampblack oil paint on a gessoed panel, Jennifer Day paints by scraping away the black surface with her finger, brushes and paper towels to delineate the light beneath. In this way, she reveals the drama of the ephemeral and the overwhelming power of water. Her subject most often requires a large format to describe this untenable immensity and yet the delicate grays suggest a quiet intimacy.

In all cases, the artist works between opposites: the geometry of the picture plane versus the impulse of nature to escape the plane all together.

Carla Munsat: “Encounters”

Exploring new imagery has always been a constant for me.  In this new body of work, I decided to explore the landscape in many different ways. Some images are more realistic and others visionary.  I have also included books in this exhibition which satisfies my approach to three dimensional forms.
